Excerpt taken from a Kothari Family scroll (Ambo) created by Shri Jagjivandas Trikamji Kothari (Oliya joshi)
Kothari family’s principal man ‘King Gaug Chauhan’ was born approximately 1750 years back in Sambharnagar of Rajasthan. His family deity was Chamunda mata. During this time, the great “Guptas” were the rulers and great belief prevailed in the Jain and the Buddha religion. King Gaug Chauhan’s son, “Udaybhan” had adopted Jain religion as his religion.
Udaybhan’s seventh generation “Narpan” was situated in rich bhinnmann state in Jodhpur. Bhinnmann was ideally called Shrimannagar. During that time, five to seven lakh people used to reside in Shrimannagar. Chakravarti King Harshvardhan was the ruler in Bhinnmann. After the demise of Chakravarti King Harshvardhan, small kings started bifurcating. Hindu religion was attacked by Arabs. Due to this, the people of Bhinnmann started residing in other much safer places.
The ninth generation from Narpann and his lineage “Jaisang” was situated in Sambhornagar before approximately 100 years earlier. While going from Ajmer to Jaipur via fulora towards east near sambhar river, sambhornagar is situated.
In 971 B.C., during the rule of Solankis and Chanakyas used to be the principal rulers. Their successor King Siddhraj Jaising used to rule stable, rich and safe state called Patan . Jsaising s seventh generation of Udaysang was ruling approximately 700 years back in place near Patan called Tharad . During the times of Udaysang, the Tharad and Kathiyavaad were principal regions who shared close relations. Approximately 850 year before Parmar Rajput s great King Lakhdhirji had migrated from Tharparkar to Kathiyavad as his principal place of stay. This place is very nearby to Kothari family s principal male King Gaug Chauhan s family deity Chamunda mata s place called Chotila. King Lakhdhirji s granddaughter, King Bhojrajji s daughter s marriage was fixed in 1300 B.C. Since principal family was staying in Thorad, Udaysang, along with that family came to Thread and took care of entire larder. King Bhojrajji of muli state was extremely pleased by the work of Udaysang and he was honored with the name of Kothari . Hence, in reality the main person of Kothari family is considered to be Udaysang. We are known from 1300 B.B i.e. from 700 years are known as Kotharis. From Udaysang, his six generations till Rajpal served as Kothari for Muli state for 200 years. As Kothari , muli state s food, money, weapons, war equipments store accounts used be kept. The Muli state s princess wedding was arranged with King Ravan jam of Kalavad. During those times, Kalavad was very prosperous in trade and business. Rajpal s son Tharan in 1490 B.c moved from Kalavad to settle in Jamnagar forever. During the time of Tharan, Sthanakvasi lokagacch was established. Tharan Kothari s till date are Sthanakvasi Jains. The 5th generation of Tharan, Vaghji impressed by success and growth of Gondal shifted to Gondal . Vaghji s son Shri Devshi bapa was born approximately 250 years ago in Khanderia street of Gondal. Shri Devshi bapa is well-wisher and the care-taker of the Kothari family. Kothari s have started visiting Osam hill consistently with full faith for accomplishing their wishes. Shri Devshi Bapa takes care of everyone s wishes.
Introduction of Shri Jagjivandas Trikamji Kothari (Oliya Joshi), the creator of Kothari family s scroll or lineage (Ambo)
Shri Jagjivandas Kothari achieved the nickname of Oliya Joshi in Gujarati literature for his comic writing. Shri Jagjivandas Kothari was born in Gondal in 1877. He obtained an LLB Degree with first class and served as a magistrate. He served Gondal state as the treasurer for 28 years continuously. Shri jagjivandas created the scroll and genealogy of Kothari family with utmost keenness, assiduity and detail, beginning from its original King Gaug Chauhan in 350 BC until 1932 BC i.e. for 1570 years. In 1932 during the time when this Scroll was being prepared, there were no effective means of communication other than the slow moving postal service was available unlike the situation today. During such hard times, he contacted people and gathered information from not just the length and breadth of the country but internationally also. It was a tall task to accomplish the gathering of the information considering it was a primitive time. In olden days, the Indian Tirth (sacred places) used to have a system wherein the care-taker will note down the family details of visiting family in the books. One can obtain all the family details from that book written by them. Similarly a few families had family advisors or personal family care-takers. Their job was to maintain the family details and lineage of the families that they are serving. Shri Jagjivandas had contacted such advisors, record maintainers and care-takers and gathered humongous and preciously maintained information of 1570 years. Hardly any other family would have this kind of family scroll or lineage available. The entire Kothari Family would always remain indebted to Shri Jagjivandas Kothari for his fundamental and foremost work of gathering such vital information.
